Every culture has its staple food which they eat. Asian dishes wouldn't be complete without rice, and mediterranean food would not be complete without pizza and pasta.
Being Malaysian, rice has always been part of the staple diet. But because we eat it so much, sometimes we forget how to be creative with it. Some times due to time constrains and our busy lifestyle we just don't bother to innovate. Try once in a while a new dish and have some fun. Not every dish will turn out right, but you can always say to everyone what I usually do ... "If its nice, then I cooked it. If its NOT, then my hubby did :-)". Everyone generally just laughs and eats.
Having spent a lot of my time with Greeks and Italians while I was in Australia, I have grown to appreciate pasta dishes. I can remember my very first pasta dish I cooked up ... it was one of those "just add water" packets you buy from the local store :-) If you are short on time but want to have fun, or low on confidence, I would encourage you to start there. Just buy a packet, add water and innovate from there, add some fried onions or bacon, add some basil or oregano.
But if you really want to have fun, we have some really great recipes to share with you. But be prepared to be adventurous, once you start venturing into the world of pasta you will realise that there are so many variations. Some contain tomatoes, other cream. Some like Jamie Oliver's
Spaghetti with Sweet Cherry Tomatoes, Marjoram and Extra Virgin Olive Oil is just purely herbs and olive oil. But do take a step of faith and try them out, you may just surprised yourself.
Every child should experience making their very own pizza, I did and what fun it was. No matter how old or young we are there is always a place in our heart to make a mess in the kitchen and create your very own pizza. Being a parent, the best way to get your kids to eat at dinner time is to involve them in the cooking :-).
